pets are familiars that follow you and assist you.

They may provide you with stat bonuses, special powers, help you in combat, or 
carry objects for you.

When you first get a pet, you can give it a name:

  pet name {newname} - This will name your pet.

Beware, you can only name a pet once. Try looking at your pet to get some quick
information about their wellbeing.
